Castle Middle Girls Claim City Is Mine Chip

The Castle Middle School Girls finished their march through the City is Mine tournament this past weekend, fielding a team comprised of players from the G13 and 14U teams.  The Girls captured the championship on Saturday, besting the Riverside Hawks 54-22 in a Semi-Final and then taking on and taking down the New York Gauchos 54–45 in the Championship.  The victories continue a great season and set the tone for the balance of the Winter season with upcoming Select Events and Marquee tournaments.

The teams will be holding tryouts in February for the Spring and Summer schedule.  Check the website for details.

CASTLE PLAYER DISPLAYS TREMENDOUS SPORTSMANSHIP

On Sunday, the Castle Girls 11U team played a league game against New Heights in the Zero Gravity Winter League.  Castle jumped out to an early lead and it was over twenty points at halftime.  In the second half, and with the margin expanding, New Heights substituted a younger player into the game to allow her to gain some experience.  Shortly, after entry, her sneakers became untied and she remained at Center Court attempting to tie her sneakers.  Realizing that the player was unable to make it happen, Castle’s ZOE CARTER stepped up during a foul shot sequence, knelt down and tied the New Heights player’s right sneaker and then her left.  Players and parents watched in amazement and admiration of Zoe and her big heart.  When she was done, Zoe received a standing ovation from everyone in the gym.

Zoe is a wonderful example of the Castle student athlete and the type of sportsmanship that we hope is displayed in all our games.  Thank you Zoe!!!

CASTLE CHALLENGE IS BACK!

After taking a few years off due to Covid, the Castle Challenge is back and scheduled to take place June 23-25, 2023 at Kingsborough Community College in Brooklyn. The tournament will be open to Boys and Girls teams 14U-Varsity level.

Castle Athletics President Brian Rosen said “we wanted to get back to what we did pre-Covid and this event is a great opportunity to showcase talent from NYC and beyond and Kingsborough. It is the Summer and the venue is on the beach and near Coney Island Amusement Park. It is a super spot for teams to play basketball and enjoy the scenery and event. We are hoping that many programs see the chance to have a great time and experience great competition.”

Registration for the Castle Challenge will open on Monday, June 5, 2023. For information and registration materials, click HERE.

CASTLE MIDDLE SCHOOL TEAMS HOLDING TRYOUTS FOR SPRING/SUMMER TEAMS

Castle Athletics will be holding tryouts for its Girls and Boys Middle School teams this week, starting today.  The tryouts for the Girls’ teams will be held at The Salvation Army, located at 138th Street and Lenox Avenue in Harlem, and the Boys’ tryouts will be held there, as well as at LPAC, located at 14 W. 170the Street in the Bronx.  Both the Girls and Boys teams will be playing a very competitive circuit this Spring and Summer and will be traveling throughout the Northeast and beyond to play against some of the best teams in the country.

Castle Athletics is a program dedicated to the academic and athletic advancement of its students athletes.  It assists in the academic development of its participants through dedicated tutoring services.  Its athletic achievement is focused upon providing the highest caliber of coaching available and the opportunity to compete against the best players.  All of this (including gear and expenses) is provided at no cost to the player or family.  Rather, participation in the academic and social enrichment portion is the only fee required.
