Castle Middle Girls Claim City Is Mine Chip

The Castle Middle School Girls finished their march through the City is Mine tournament this past weekend, fielding a team comprised of players from the G13 and 14U teams.  The Girls captured the championship on Saturday, besting the Riverside Hawks 54-22 in a Semi-Final and then taking on and taking down the New York Gauchos 54–45 in the Championship.  The victories continue a great season and set the tone for the balance of the Winter season with upcoming Select Events and Marquee tournaments.

The teams will be holding tryouts in February for the Spring and Summer schedule.  Check the website for details.

CASTLE PLAYER DISPLAYS TREMENDOUS SPORTSMANSHIP

On Sunday, the Castle Girls 11U team played a league game against New Heights in the Zero Gravity Winter League.  Castle jumped out to an early lead and it was over twenty points at halftime.  In the second half, and with the margin expanding, New Heights substituted a younger player into the game to allow her to gain some experience.  Shortly, after entry, her sneakers became untied and she remained at Center Court attempting to tie her sneakers.  Realizing that the player was unable to make it happen, Castle’s ZOE CARTER stepped up during a foul shot sequence, knelt down and tied the New Heights player’s right sneaker and then her left.  Players and parents watched in amazement and admiration of Zoe and her big heart.  When she was done, Zoe received a standing ovation from everyone in the gym.

Zoe is a wonderful example of the Castle student athlete and the type of sportsmanship that we hope is displayed in all our games.  Thank you Zoe!!!
