Teams Announced for First Castle Athletics Challenge
announced October 27, 2016
Castle Athletics announced today that it will hold its First Castle Athletics Challenge on November 25-26, 2016. The two-day event, to be played at Hostos Community College in the Bronx, will bring together some of NYC’s best high school boys and girls basketball programs. On the boys side, teams are John Bowne, John F. Kennedy, Bedford Academy, McKee/Staten Island, Democracy Prep, Kipp College Prep, High School for Construction, Holcombe Rucker, Brooklyn Law & Tech and Wadleigh. And, on the girls side, teams are Democracy Prep, Manhattan Center, John F. Kennedy, Martin Luther King, Harry Truman, Holcombe Rucker, Renaissance and Aquinas.
Brian Rosen, Castle President, noted that “Hostos is a first class school with first class athletic facilities. We are thrilled with our relationship with Hostos because we share the same message-providing academics and opportunities to the local communities. To be able to hold the Challenge there furthers our goal of reaching out to the neighborhoods and to show what is available in their own backyard.”
Castle Grassroots Coordinator Rudy King said that “the response from the NYC grassroots basketball community to the Challenge has been incredible. We thought that the first year would be a growing year, but, the number of teams interested in participating has been overwhelming and we, the Castle family, thoroughly appreciate the trust. Hopefully, next year, we will be able to accommodate everyone interested.”
While there will be lots of basketball to be played over the course of the Challenge, Rosen promises many contests and giveaways for spectators. The schedule for games will be posted on the Castle website and be available on social media outlets. Tickets for the event will be $5 per day, with a minimum of four games per day.
