Castle Athletes Succeed on the Court and in the Classroom
announced May 25, 2016
Over the past three months, the Castle boys and girls teams have been taking to the court and tackling the books. With over 200 student athletes in the program this year, spread over five girls and nine boys teams, the Castle mandate of education first is catching on. Our student athletes have been attending academic enrichment sessions before every practice. From homework assistance to debates about topics important to our youth, our student athletes have been engaged and getting vital assistance with their school workloads. Howie Harrison, Castle Education Director, noted that “each session, there is something positive happening. Whether the aid is direct or indirect, our students come away from with something that assists them or that provides a different perspective.”
On the court, the Castle teams have been racking up wins and championships at tournaments throughout the United States. The national level teams have been traveling to Dallas, Atlanta, Washington, D.C. and beyond. Upcoming tournaments will take these teams to North Carolina, Tennessee, Kentucky, Georgia, Nevada, Pennsylvania and Massachusetts. Our younger teams have played on a more local level as they get comfortable with the rigor of tournaments and the resultant commitment, but they too will hit the road soon for national tourneys. Congratulations to them all!
