Castle Takiní It to the Streets

announced August 19, 2015

Castle kids have continued the Summer fun and basketball by playing in playground tournaments throughout New York City. And, they continue to bring home the gold in many of them.

On the Girls’ side, the 12U team has continued their phenomenal season-long run by taking the championship at the Rucker. Coach “Big Jeff” has done a tremendous job with the squad all year and he and the girls exemplify what Castle is all about-academics first and hoops to follow. They continue their quest with one more tournament playoff this weekend-Future Talent Tournament.

The 15U girls have been just as good. Last weekend, they picked up the prize at the Gardiner Classic at St. James Park. They are also in the championship game this weekend at the Future Talent Tournament. Coach Red, the old lion of girls basketball in NYC, has also done a fantastic job getting the girls to play team basketball.

Flipping to the Boys’ side, Coach Bill put out a combined 15/16U squad to play in the Ballin’ Out Loud Tournament in Brooklyn. Last night, they knocked off Paul Robeson H.S. in the championship by three points. Jack Srinivasan took home MVP honors after canning seven three-pointers. This capped a tremendous season and the boys are looking forward to showing their stuff at their respective high schools.

Not to be forgotten are the rising stars of the Castle program, our 10U and 8U boys teams. Each of the teams played in the Gladiator Sports and Youth on the Rise tournaments this Summer. While the 8U team lost in the Gladiator Semis by one, 24-23, despite an amazing performance by Nathaniel Wilder who scored 14 straight points, they took the Chip at Youth on the Rise by besting the Gauchos 16-10 in the Finals. The 10U squad played equally well before falling in the championship at Gladiator and in the semis at Youth on the Rise. Congratulations on a great year boys! Get bigger!!!!

After a brief rest, the middle school and younger teams will get it going in the end of September.
