Castle Knights Do Vegas the Right Way

announced July 29, 2015

The Castle Knights are back home in NYC. But, they played great in Las Vegas. The 17U, 16U and 15U teams competed in both The Big Foot Las Vegas Classic and The Adidas Uprising Summer Championships. Both tournaments were managed very well and both had some of the top teams in the country playing. Our boys played morning, afternoon and night and did a great job!

On the 15U front, in the Las Vegas Classic, the Knights went 3-0 in pool play, winning comfortably in each. In the knockout phase, the boys beat the Arizona Power but succumbed to eventual runner-up Minnesota Fury in the Elite 8. At the Adidas Sumer Championships, the Knights went 2-1 in pool play, losing a tough one to the Arkansas Hawks, but then stormed back to win two straight in the knockout bracket-the first over Gauntlet Series team Texas Elite and the second over SCA (from Southern California). The latter game was spectacular, with Jordan McAllister leading the way and hitting an amazing “3” with one second to play to put the Knights back on top. The squad was ultimately defeated in the Sweet 16 by Wisconsin Playground. All players contributed in both tournaments with special mention going out to Jordan for his leadership and timely scoring, to Sal Koureissi for his offense, rebounding and inside defense, to Jack Srinivasan for tremendous outside shooting and to Victor Nzeama for rim protection and overall excellent inside presence on both sides of the ball.

The 16U Knights also had a great run. They too went undefeated in pool play at the Las Vegas Classic, but went down to All In Y&R in the bracket phase. At the Summer Championships, the Knights went 3-0 in pool play and took first place. In bracket ball, the squad took on the always tough Ohio Basketball Club and were defeated. Malachi DeSousa made a real impression all over Las Vegas, scoring, rebounding and playing stellar defense. Helping lead the way were Carnell White and Victor Potter.

Lastly, the 17U Knights had a great run also. At the Big Foot tourney, they went 3-0 in pool play. Then, in a touch of revenge, they knocked off the Nebraska Bison in the first round of bracket play. It was revenge for the Bison took out the then-16U Knights last year in the Vegas Finals semis. The boys got bumped out of the Classic in the next round by the Mac Irvin Fire and a 53 point performance by Zack Nowell. It was a performance that will be hard to forget. At the Summer Championships, the Knights won the pool, going 2-1. But, they ran into a tough Marcus Smart squad in the first round and came up short. The Knights were led throughout by Jeffrey Otchere, Jordan Lee and Kevin Dennis. Check out the online highlights for a nice dunk by Kevin.

Many thanks to all of the coaches for everything you did!!
