Castle Knights Take Over Vassar and More
announced June 10, 2015
This past weekend, the Castle Knights 16U and 14U squads stormed the Vassar College quad and came away with championships at the Vassar Summer Classic. In doing so, the Castle 16U team knocked off all comers, including the PSA Cardinals in a very closely contested game. Afterwards, Coach Marcus Matthews noted that “the progression of the Castle program and our team has been fantastic. Our teams can play with any team, sponsored or otherwise, and come away with victories. This shows that basketball and an academic enrichment program can support each other and develop athletes for the next level.”
Coach Howie Harrison of the 14U Knights was equally buoyed. His charges went 2-1 in pool play, losing only by 3 to Coast 2 Coast. But, in bracket play, the boys swept by Elite Hoops and then gained revenge by besting Coast 2 Coast by 7 in the Finals. “The loss was tough because the game was close throughout. But, our boys regrouped and played strongly and together for two additional games to bring it all home. It was just another step along the path-we keep moving forward.”
We forgot to mention several other hoop successes several weeks ago. At the Hall of Fame Spring Classic, the Castle Knights performed very well with the 17U and 15U teams making the championship games and the 17U squad bringing home the hardware. Additionally, George Pena and Michael Laster from the 17U team and Soulemayne Koureissi from the 15U were named to the All-Tournament team.
Also, the 14U Castle Lady Knights notched their first championship several weeks ago, winning the ZG War for Westchester. There, the girls went 4-0 in pool play and then tacked on two more vicotries in the knockout rounds. Congratulations ladies!!
This week, many of the boys travel to Boston for the ZG Nationals while the girls head to the Albany area for the Gym Rat. Good luck!!
