Castle Boys HS Teams Start Seasons with Chips
announced March 25, 2015
This past weekend, seven Castle Athletics teams invaded New Jersey to participate in the March Showdown at Ramapo College. The tournament was the kickoff for six of the teams, including the three Boys High School aged teams. And, all three came away with tournament championships.
The 17U team, led by Jeffrey Otchere, Mousa Ndiaye and Michael Laster, roared through the competition. Coach Ghandhi Martin was impressed by the early season play, remarking “it was a total team effort and the transition game led to tremendous opportunities.”
The 16U team started slowly but came to life, rolling to three victories. Coach Marcus Matthews praised the team style and noted how Malachi DeSousa jump started the team with 28 points in their first game. He noted that the “boys really enjoy playing together and you can see how they will jell in the weeks to come.”
The 15U team completed the trifecta by sweeping through the competition. Coach Bill Coston said after the tournament that there “were many positives on the court, especially the play of Jarell Ware. His athleticism and defensive style got the entire team energized.” Coach Bill also loved how the team matured game-to-game and the effort to find the open man improved throughout the day.
Castle also had its girls teams on display at the tournament, with three of the teams starting their season. Each team played well and improved as the day wore on. There is no doubt that there is great play ahead for the teams.
At the Spring Jr. Jam Fest in Neptune, New Jersey, Castle’s 14U and 13U boys teams played. Although wins were tough to come by, each did very well, impressing the coaches and supporters.
This week, four boys and three girls teams head to Saratoga to play in the UA Zero Gravity Thoroughbred Classic.
