Castle Wins the War for Westchester
announced May 19, 2014
Castle's Boys teams won most of the battles and the ultimate War for Westchester (a Zero Gravity tournament) this past weekend. Led by the 17U and 16U teams, the boys won two championships, were edged in another final and barely missed making the finals in a fourth age group. All in all, a pretty good weekend for the boys.
Held at SUNY Purchase, the tournament comprised teams from New Jersey, New York City and Upstate New York. The teams were challenged throughout and the games were competitive. Ultimately, talent, speed and athleticism won out and both the 17s and 16s pulled away.
The 15s took their tournament hopes to the wire before succumbing to Edge Athletics 49-46 in the Finals. The 14s just missed out on reaching the Finals by losing a close game after leading throughout.
But, most importantly, all of the boys teams did it this weekend with class and style. As said by one opposing coach:
"Just got done watching your teams this weekend. Was the only fortunate coach to get a fortunate win against them. I am just letting you know what a classy bunch of players and coaches you have. I was utterly impressed. Keep up the good work."
The 7th and 8th grade girls teams also participated at the "War", each going 1-2. Additionally, this weekend saw a new Castle team hit the hardwood, a boys 4th grade unit. The team went 1-2. We. Look for bigger and better things in the future.
Play continues for the boys this weekend at the Gym Rat Challenge in Albany and Saratoga.
