Hoop Dreams Invitational Recap

announced April 8, 2014

 (from Elite Sports Events)

Elite sports put on another great basketball tournament to kick off their spring season as they hosted the Hoop Dreams Invitational at the INSPORTS facility in Trumbull. Teams from the ages of 10 through 17 competed in this very competitive battle between great programs from the Tri State area!

...

In the most competitive division of the tournament, the 15U division, the Castle Knights from New York defeated the Mplex Mustangs from Massachusetts, 64-53. Victor Potter dominated the game as he proved to be just too big and powerful inside scoring 27 points and grabbing 12 rebounds. Mplex simply had no answer for him. Zack Falch added 10, Demarley Smith 9 and Jason Valera chipped in with 8 points in the victory. Mplex was led by Matt Erlich with 17, Max Boen with 16, Christian Weber with 12 and Brian Daman had 14 rebounds! This division was so competitive as teams beat each other in pool play all weekend. The GOSH Warriors missed the championship by ONE POINT in the tiebreaker and had great performances by Vaughn Robinson who scored 29 points in one game, John Cooper hit FIVE 3-pointers in one game and Sean Smith chipped in with 6 points. Coach Tracee Jamison has a very good team that will be hard to reckon with in future tournaments, that is for sure. This division was so close and separated by a couple possessions in almost every game of the weekend!

In the 17U division, The Castle Knights King from New York defeated New Hartford D-Struction from Ct, in the closest, most intense championship game of the tournament, 72-69 in OT!! Darius Webster led Castle with 18 points and Elijah Frater kicked in 15 in the nail biter! Hartford was led by Shea Tracy scored a game high 19 hitting SIX 3 pointers on the game!!!! Jessie Mohring added 11 points in the defeat. These teams had battled earlier in the tournament as Castle defeated Hartford but the championship proved to be a much tougher battle! Two great teams competed so hard and we are sure we will see these teams again!!
