10th and 9th Grade Teams Tune Up at Vassar

announced June 7, 2013

The 10th and 9th Grade teams played at Vassar College last weekend and both ran through their brackets to the championship. The tournament served as a tune-up for this weekend’s Rumble in the Bronx.

The 10th Graders went 3-0 in pool play and then defeated a game Marlboro Crush and the Sullivan Select in the semi-finals and finals, respectively. Again, the team played cohesively on offense and defense, sharing the ball, looking for the open shot and playing tremendous “Help Defense”. The team ran when fast breaks were available and played half-court offense when necessary. Andrew Garcia and Jahmel Bodrick led the way during pool play and Glenn Wilkerson, Deionte Davis and Darius Webster contributed throughout.

Castle’s 9th Graders also ran through pool play, knocking off the Newburgh Lions by 10, Kingston Komets by 4 and the CD Raptors by 18. The Evans Boys (no relation), Kamarty and Xavier, and K. Ballo led the way. In the Championship Game, a slow-down offense was employed. But, it still did not stop the Knights from prevailing over the Nor East Lightning, 25-18. Clutch play down the stretch by Kevin Dennis and Carlos Ortiz helped Castle pull out the win.
