9th and 10th Grade Teams Win Tune-Ups for The Gym Rat

announced May 23, 2013

Both the 9th and 10th Grade teams won their divisions of the Zero Gravity War for Westchester this past weekend, each winning five games over two days. The 8th Grade team narrowly missed out winning its pool and qualifying for the medal round.

All weekend, the 10th Grade Knights were led by tremendous team play and an aggressive man-to-man defense. While each opponent played zone defense, the Knights deftly and swiftly passed the ball around the perimeter until either the right jump shot appeared or a better interior pass became available. Scoring was balanced throughout the weekend, with each player providing significant contributions. In the final, and after squandering a double digit lead, the Knights overcame a game Marlboro Crush to win by 5 in overtime.

The 9th Grade squad used a high octane defense to throttle their opposition. Each game, the team pressured their opponents and forced numerous turnovers. The Knights took it to the CT United Kings in winning the final by 12, 64-52. The team was led by Kevin Dennis’ ferocious rebounding all weekend, the solid play of Carlos Ortiz and the scoring of Ruben Coach and Michael Laster.

The 8th Grade team played great all weekend, winning two and losing one by only three points.

All three teams head to the Albany area this weekend for the Gym Rat Challenge.
