Castle 8th Grade Earns Bid to D1 National Tournament

With wins against Connecticut Elite and the North Babylon Bulldogs during this past weekend’s AAU Super Regional Championship hosted in Newtown, Connecticut, Castle’s 8th grade team secured a bid to the D1 AAU National Tournament.
Castle Knights 62 – Connecticut Elite 39:
From start to finish, the Castle Knights dictated the early Sunday afternoon game against Connecticut Elite. The Knights came out pressing and, through a balanced attack, built an early lead that they maintained until the final buzzer. Victor Potter was a force inside, finishing with 18 points and several rebounds. Both Derek Wagner and Michael Rogers added 11 points, and John Jimenez scored 9 points.
Castle Knights 69 – North Babylon Bulldogs 65:
The Knights demonstrated perseverance and a fiery desire to win during their victory against North Babylon. The Bulldogs got out to an early 15 point lead, but Castle was determined to earn their D1 AAU National Tournament bid. After a time out, the Knights came out in an intense full-court press that created turnovers and lead to easy layups. Steven Remigio was the Knights’ sparkplug with numerous steals and an all-around defensive effort; he also scored 8 points. Victor Potter led the Knights in scoring and rebounding, finishing the game with 22 points, 6 of which were from the free throw line in the final minutes of the close game. John Jimenez and Galeal Martin also proved to have ice in their veins, as both made free throws to seal Castle’s victory; Jimenez scored 15 points and Martin had 6. Derek Wagner added 11 points.
