Curriculum Strength and Advanced Testing: Do They Matter?

I was talking with a mother of the prospective student recently. She raised questions about our evaluation of rigor and AP/IB/SAT Subject tests. These questions have recently show up more frequently in a blog so I thought it would be fitting to address it. Possibly it’s because AP tests are coming quickly and pupils are beginning to question it to take the tests if it is worth.

First, let’s address rigor. The overall inquiry seems to basically boil down seriously to this:

Are admission counselors able to objectively and fairly evaluate the curriculum strength of each and every student?

In term, YES. At USC, we’ve one of many biggest, if not the admission staff that is largest of any personal university in the united states. Each member is assigned up to a domestic or region that is international or both. We take pride in taking care of our territories. Relationships are forged and maintained with high school counselors, parents and students that are prospective. The target is to have comprehensive and detail by detail understanding of our territory. We have become alert to exactly what an application that is competitive like within its proper context. Fundamentally, you are able to think about us as context specialists. Context is specially essential in our process. We recognize that rigor appears vastly unique and different for every school. Use of scholastic and extracurricular tasks in each high school, city, and area will vary.

We obtain it…rigor and context are essential. Is practical. Therefore now that I’ve taken all these advanced courses, is it actually worthwhile to just take the tests?

In another word, well the same word, YES. You have place in so much work learning the higher level product all 12 months. Why not just just take the test?! There are other possible advantages besides the apparent financial savings you could have if you had been to pass through these tests. In essence, you can wind up freeing some devices to just just take on another minor or a dual major. Trust me, if you place in the ongoing work now, the huge benefits will outweigh the costs so much more.

Generally speaking, if you get at least a 4 on any AP exam, or at minimum a 5 on any Higher Level IB Exam; then you’ll be able to transfer some credits into USC. For more information, please go right to the USC Articulation Website.

Finally, SAT topic Tests, just what about those? Well, in a nutshell, these are typically not required to make an application for any program that is undergraduate USC. But, then go ahead and submit those scores to us if you happen to be taking them for another school and you receive a great score. We shall positively let them have a look.

Best of luck on everybody else taking the AP and IB exams coming up. I wish this gives a number of you a little more motivation!

Mission Accomplished!

Moments ago, we bid adieu to a truck complete of admission decisions. These are typically formally mailed today! Therefore exciting! Thanks for sticking with us over this year that is past. We’ve needed and utilized every single minute since our deadlines passed to pick this course. Choosing students is parts that are equal and technology. While I am confident that the group here at USC has made the greatest decisions feasible, I am sure that not everybody will agree with our judgment. We are also dismayed that so many incredible students were turned away; there just wasn’t enough room although we are thrilled to have identified the most impressive admitted class in USC’s 134-year history. None of us takes joy or pride in this element of our work. We have been, nonetheless, notably consoled by the proven fact that our applicants have myriad options for greater education. Past experience shows us that everybody will see an accepted spot that is right for them.
